Job Purpose and Mission

The Market Planning analyst contributes to Starbucks’ success by contributing to the market planning of new and existing stores, consulting with management to define market and real estate development strategies, and developing market-specific assessments and action plans. Models and acts in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

Communication and Relationship building –

  • Communicating key projects and supporting the implementation of company programs across cultures, teams and organizational levels

Planning and Execution – Executing operational plans for the work group, and measuring results:

  • Planning and managing business unit and department processes and practices to ensure that programs are aligned with company business goals and objectives;
  • Preparing, communicating and educating client groups and team on changes in policies and practices within the organization;
  • Supporting analytical projects assessing new business development, growth, strategic planning and related business initiatives.

Business Requirements – Providing functional expertise and executing functional responsibilities:

  • Support UK Market Planning & Strategy Manager in delivery of departmental objectives.
  • Creating standardized reports and applications on store and market performance;
  • Advocating enterprise market planning tools such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS), geo-demographics, data mining and consumer research;
  • Training field real estate teams on the availability and application of market and site analysis tools and processes;
  • Conducting strategic planning research using geo-demographic, consumer and company data regarding market development, store network optimization, site selection, store expansion and renovations or relocations;
  • Provide analytical support of ad hoc and strategic planning analyses to support field real estate development and asset management. This includes statistical analysis and building of multivariate models.
  • Conducting market gap and penetration studies;
  • Assisting field management with identification of appropriate strategies and execution plans to achieve store opening, penetration and sales performance objectives;
  • Overseeing production and process of demographic reporting and analysis services, including documentation and support materials for site and market planning tools in production;

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

The Market Planning analyst we’re looking for has a minimum of 2 years of statistical and site research experience in a retail or related environment.

Must haves:

  • Experienced in using statistical software for analysis of market research data and development of regression and other multivariate models.
  • Experience with using demographic data in retail market, site analysis or marketing research.
  • Experienced in working with Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Relevant Bachelor degree;
  • Project management experience
  • Ability to develop databases;
  • Ability to perform statistical, mathematical and financial modeling;
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and statistical applications;
  • Familiarity with application of GIS and spatial analysis technology in market research environment;
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen;
