Retail and Leisure Research Analyst, Savills, Manchester


The role

We are currently seeking a research analyst for our Retail & Leisure Research team based in Manchester. This is an excellent opportunity to work with a dynamic property research consultancy team within a FTSE-250 listed property company, with a global network of offices. There has been a considerable expansion in the demand for the Retail Research team’s services within Savills in recent years and the successful candidate will directly contribute in taking the business a step further.

This position is well suited to a candidate who has recently completed a geography, science, statistical or economics based master’s degree, or PHD, or already had a few years’ experience in industry.

You will support retail property market analysis within a property research and consultancy department dealing primarily with the retail sector in the UK. Our retail capability supports a number of property areas, including retail & leisure development and investment, high street and out-of-town retail agency and retailer acquisition strategies, with requirements for both landlord and tenant. You must be highly motivated and ambitious, with a fine attention to detail. Note that there is a strong focus on analysing data using GIS and Excel methods and therefore skills in this area, or the ability to learn them quickly are very important.

Key responsibilities

  • Retail & leisure property research and consultancy
  • Supporting other members of the team in producing catchment analysis, demographic and expenditure reports, researching supply, mapping, compiling reports and managing property databases.
  • Preparation of analysis and reports for clients aimed at answering a wide range of questions relating to retail development, planning and investment.
  • Developing and commercialising new insights into the retail market.
  • Analysing and interrogating published data and in-house market intelligence.
  • Collaborating with research colleagues to establish market trends and drivers.

Candidate Profile

  • Degree qualified, with an aptitude for quantitative techniques, data manipulation, location analysis, an analytical approach to completing assignments and strong attention to detail.
  • Exceptional numeracy skills and a strong scientific approach to drawing conclusions from a variety of evidence.
  • Strong IT & Microsoft Office skills including Excel, Word and PowerPoint. A desire to learn how to use other packages, such as Access and GIS.
  • Training will be provided where necessary but we expect a high level of aptitude in order to implement new skills quickly and effectively.
  • Ability to draw key themes from data and construct an argument in a logical and accessible way.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to present your findings in a professional, logical and engaging way.
  • An interest in news, current affairs and the retail property market is an advantage.
  • Good time management, the ability to prioritise tasks and an ability to work on a diverse range of ongoing projects.
  • Personal skills suited to working with a professional team environment as well as for a range of clients.
