Information about our speakers:
John Winterbottom
John has worked in the Co-operative Movement for most of his working life,
spending 12 years as a colleague of Gerrard at the Co-operative Group (then
CWS) before moving to United Co-operatives in 1993 to head up the Business
Development department.
Since this time the Society's annual turnover has grown from £600m to £1.9 billion, with the total number of retail outlets increasing from 440 to just under 1,000.
His interests include the theatre, wining & dining and trying to burn some of it off at the gym! He is also a lifelong supporter of Huddersfield Town.
David Pringle FRICS
Davis is Head of Investment and Retail Property at Co-operative Property division. Joined the Group as Investment Manager in January 2000 after spending over 11 years with Evans of Leeds plc. He is a member of first line team in Property Division working for Bob Galley, Director of Property.
David's current responsibilities include: Groups Investment Portfolio - Value as at Jan 2005 - c£240m, Retail Trading Property Portfolio - c1700 no of units and Disposal/management of former trading property.
Andrew Tasker
Andrew’s long career at Sainsbury’s was primarily in the Marketing Division, from managing the Market Research department, to heading up Advertising and Marketing.
During his time at Sainsbury’s he has been responsible for setting up a number of new departments and initiatives, such as Local Marketing - a team created to undertake promotions and advertising tailored at the individual store level. He was also responsible for the creation of a team within the Market Research department focused upon competitor strategies and tactics, in particular pricing.
In the last few years he was responsible for Location Planning at Sainsbury’s, through which every proposed new store and store extension is assessed. The most recent projects were evaluating acquisition opportunities, including Safeway, Bells and Jacksons. This included working directly with the Competition Authorities.
In 2005, Andrew is undertaking yet another new initiative when he leaves Sainsbury’s to set up "Optimum Locations", his own Retail Location Consultancy. Although still consulting for Sainsbury’s on Location Planning, he wants to transfer his skills and knowledge to other retail and leisure sectors. This includes advising on network strategies and techniques to expand and rationalise retail property portfolios as well as optimising the performance of existing units.
Andrew is married with two children and although lives in Purley, spends as much time as he can in Cornwall, where surfing, sailing and golf are his favourite pastimes.
