Speaker: Jack Steenstra of Abbey National

Location: Wendover, Bucks - 4th December 2002

Jack Steenstra is Manager of Distribution Strategy at Abbey National. He talked about; 1) differences and similarities
between banking and retail, 2) how that influences Abbey National's strategy and 3) examples of how Abbey National
have started to address the issues with the help of third parties.

Jack has been in location planning for nearly 20 years now, first in the petrol business and now banking, and has probably
used every tool in the Location Analyst's toolbox - from Gravity models and LP Optimisation models to common sense.

In the last five years, Abbey National has made huge improvements in the efficiency of the branch network with benefits to
all their stakeholders - customers, shareholders and colleagues. Picking the right places to invest and the right partners to
work with has contributed greatly to Abbey National's success. This talk will give some insight of how this has been achieved.
