Event Speaker & Brief Synopsis:

Keith Dugmore, Demographics User Group:

Keith’s varied career includes both census analysis at the GLC, and two spells at CACI, where he managed both Public Sector and Financial Services teams.

In 1996, Keith founded Demographic Decisions to provide impartial advice on the use of data to answer business questions; and then in 1998, he founded the Demographics User Group, to represent large commercial companies’ needs for government data, and enabling members to share their experiences of datasets, methods of analysis, and the insights obtained.

The Guardian’s Free Our Data campaign has done great work over the past 3 years, raising public debate about the availability of data collected by government at taxpayers’ expense. The campaign rightly focuses on areas – such as Ordnance Survey – which are still problematic.

But what data is already free? Keith Dugmore of the Demographics User Group www.demographicsusergroup.co.uk, which was set up in 1998 to represent large commercial users of government datasets, will review the progress that has been made over the last decade, and outline the data of value to retail analysts that is available at little or no cost.
